You’re probably well aware of the fact that our lives can dramatically change in an instant, whether that be for better or for worse. I wish I could tell you that today I’ll be telling you a story of people whose lives were dramatically changed for the better. Unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Leslee and David Henson were out on a walk one day when they were struck by a car driven by a woman named Carla Brennan. Carla had been texting while driving. What happened afterwards is tragic. David Henson perished in the crash, and Leslee was left with severe injuries. Leslee says, “There was a driver that was texting. She was driving distracted, over the speed limit, and she ran into a car which pushed that car into us.”

David was killed on impact, but there was still hope for Leslee when she was struck. She was immediately transported to the trauma unit in the Utah Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah. Leslee will make a full recovery, but her scars from her neck fracture, two back fractures, and head trauma will remain forever. Leslee had to receive over 5,000 stitches for treatment.

Fred Konrath was the man behind the wheel of the car that Carla’s car crashed into. Fred recalls,

“She was so focused on that text message that hitting me was a total surprise and resulted in a tremendous tragedy for lots of people. There’s a message that has to get out here, I think, and the message is that things can happen in an instant. Lives can be changed in an instant. And not knowing what you’re doing, being distracted, is a major cause of those accidents that are occurring all over this country right now.

In the following video, you’ll watch Leslee’s recall her heartbreaking and tragic story and provide a warning to any distracted drivers out there. Leslee states that “nine people a day are killed by distracted drivers.” Those are nine people whose lives were unfairly taken away. Please, don’t drive distracted. Focus on driving, and you’ll be saving lives.

Stop the texts, stop the wrecks.

Please SHARE the Hensons’ heartbreaking story with your friends and family. Together, we can stop distracted driving.
