When you hear the word ‘introvert’, you likely think of a very shy, quiet person who keeps to themselves and prefers to be alone. While this is generally true of the personality type, it’s also somewhat misleading. The stereotype paints them as gloomy loners who shun society and yet the vast majority of introverts are not friendless hermits, but rather happy and highly social individuals.
While it is true that introverts are shyer than their counterparts, aka extroverts, they simply prefer to internalize what they are thinking and feeling. They are also much more perceptive of the world around them and pick up on all sorts of little details and information that others fail to see and miss. As it turns out, introverts are usually very intelligent people because of this and they know a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff!
Over the years many of the original concepts and beliefs that surround the whole idea of introversion have shifted and changed. No one person exactly fits the mold in terms of the definition of what it means to be an introvert.
