Religion stopped her from eating
After dropping her daughter off at daycare, Scotland native Yasmin Jackson, noticed her five-year-old daughter Amari was starving when she picked her up.
But it turns out the daycare has a religious rule which prevented the toddler from eating her packed lunch. Her chicken salad sandwich, bread sticks, humus and chocolate lunch violated the rules of the school. “When I picked her up at the end of the day the first thing she said to me was, ‘Mummy I’m really hungry, can I have my lunch now?’” Yasmin recalled.
Yasmin asked the schools manager why her daughter had not eaten her lunch, and she replied that it was not “halal” food. After letting the manager know she and her family were actually christian, Yasmin was told the establishment didn’t accept non-halal food.
After posting her interaction online, Yasmin received tremendous support from the online community. But the Kingswood daycare center believes they are in the right, with Yasmin replying “this is not about being anti-Muslim. It’s anti-starving my child, and anti-stupidness.”
